Do you have teeth that are:

  • aligned badly?
  • chipped?
  • spaced too far apart?
  • deeply stained?

If your teeth look bad and you want that bright, attractive smile then veneers might be your answer.

Veneers help improve your smile, by making your teeth straight, even and white. You will want to smile more, knowing your teeth look their best.

Improve Your Smile, Improve Your Teeth With Veneers

Dental veneers are a simple solution for many types of unattractive flaws in the appearance of your teeth. They cover up chips, stains and uneven shape.

Veneers have the added advantage of providing a layer of protection over the original enamel, which reduces the risk of damage to your tooth. They provide added structural integrity, but also have their drawbacks. You will want to talk to our dentist to find out what solutions are best for you.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are made of porcelain or other bio-materials that are formed into very thin laminates custom fitted to the size and shape of your tooth. This is cemented to the top surface of the tooth with the flaw, which hides the imperfection.

There are two main types:

  • Porcelain—these are the most durable but also most expensive. They look like natural teeth because the porcelain is translucent. It also resists stains. Fitting them takes two visits and the veneers can last up to 10 years.
  • Direct veneers, also called Resin Composite–these are molded directly onto the tooth’s surface. They can be finished in a single visit to the dentist. They can chip and usually last one or two years. They require that slightly less enamel be shaved off before they are bonded to the tooth.

How Are Veneers Applied?

First the dentist shaves off a tiny layer of the tooth enamel. This lets the dentist fit the veneer so it doesn’t stick out.

For porcelain veneers, the dentist makes impressions of the teeth to be covered, using dental putty. The dentist might put on temporary veneers to protect the tooth while the permanent one is being made.

The impressions are sent to a dental lab where the actual veneers are created. In a week or two, the patient comes in for a second visit. The dentist bonds the veneer to the flawed tooth with composite resin.

What Can I Expect?

Veneers effectively cover up gaps between teeth, chips in teeth, cracks, deep staining and uneven shape. Before getting fitted for a veneer, Dr. Scott Laudon will examine your teeth.

He will ask what you ideally want to see when the treatment is done. He will show you before and after photos of other patients who have had veneers put on. This will give you a realistic way to judge what you can expect for your own teeth.

For porcelain veneers, you will need two visits. For direct veneers, the procedure needs just one visit. The Alcan Dental team will make you comfortable during the treatment.

After the procedure is done, they will explain how to care for your new veneers so they last as long as possible and look perfect. Any time you have questions after the treatment, simply call and they will give you advice and care.
